My Version of The Great Divide- by Aang-mega-fan
Aang was the leading two rival tribes through the great divide, but it was much harder than he had expected. He got Katara and Sokka to lead a group each down two separate paths. Aang walked along the tall rock wall that separated the tribes. They had been walking for around two hours when Aang heard a man shout to him.
“Avatar Aang! The water tribe girl has collapsed!” Aang jumped down from the wall and knelt down at Katara’s side. No-one was allowed to bring food or water on this journey, so Aang guessed that his friend had collapsed from dehydration or hunger. He air bended himself onto the other side of the rock wall and called Sokka’s side onto Katara’s.
“Okay everyone needs to stay on the same path for a little while, alright?” An uproar went through the crowd after Aang said this. “Everyone… please listen to me…SHUT UP!” This quietened everyone. They had not expected a twelve year old, let alone the avatar, to tell them to shut up. “My friend is hurt and I…”
“Will she be okay?” Sokka asked anxiously. Silence.
“I’m gonna try to help her the best I can.” Sokka gave him a ‘you’d-better-or-I’ll-kill-you’ look. “Your not the only one here who cares about her!” Aang shouted in reply. Sokka looked angrily at the ground.
“As I was saying…I think that when she recovers she’ll need a bit of space, so I’m gonna ask you Sokka,” Aang’s gaze returned to Sokka. “If you can lead everyone for a while. Just a short time while I help your sister.”
Sokka didn’t need telling twice. He walked to the front of the group and led them on. A woman walked back to Aang.
“Do you need some-one to stay behind and help you, Avatar Aang?” she asked. Aang shook his head.
“I can do it on my own. Thank you for offering.” The woman smiled then returned to her people. Aang returned to Katara. She was laying down in the shade. She looked deathly pale. “You’ll be alright Katara. I’ll make sure of that.” He sat down at her side. For a few moments he just looked at her face. Then he felt his hand gently take hold of hers. Suddenly, Katara turned her head and her eyes flickered open. She smiled up at Aang, then coughed.
“W-what happened?” she whispered. Aang smiled back at her.
“You collapsed. You’ll be alright in a few hours though.” Katara looked around then sat bolt upright. Aang jumped.
“Where is everyone?” Katara choked. She began coughing again. Aang pulled her back onto the ground.
“I told Sokka to lead them on. I thought that you might want a bit of space after you woke up.” Katara smiled again.
“Thanks Aang.” she whispered before closing her eyes and falling asleep. Aang felt the smile fade from his face as a tear fell down his face. He held her hand tight in his.

Katara woke up and remembered what had happened earlier. She sat up and looked over to see Aang asleep beside her. His arm around her waist. She smiled.
“I’ll pretend I’m asleep. If he knew that I’d seen him, I don’t know how long it would take for him to get over it.” She laid back down and closed her eyes. Aang woke within a few minutes. He gently took his arm away from her waist and got up to try and find Momo (yes Momo had stayed behind to!). Katara stood up. She felt fine, but after a few seconds everything went black and she collapsed onto the floor. Aang had seen her stand up and he thought that she was going to be alright, so he returned to searching for his pet. However, when he heard Katara collapse, he ran back to her.
“Katara! Katara, are you alright?” Aang fell to his knees. Katara was crying. “What’s wrong?” he asked.
“I can’t see! I can’t see a thing!” she replied through her tears. Aang felt his heart stop. There was something seriously wrong with Katara if she could not see. He could feel it.
“It’s alright.” he tried to say, but the words would not come out. He just held her close to him. Katara felt Aang’s arms around her. She hugged him tight and cried into his chest. “Aang… I’m scared.” she whispered. Aang closed his eyes tight, but the tears flowed like rivers down his cheeks.
“It’ll be alright.” he managed to say. He tried to keep his voice from sounding frightened, but it was difficult. They sat in each others arms for a while before having to make a fire for the night.
